This large wreck lies east to west and sits reasonably upright, but with a list to starboard. She is now starting to deteriorate, in particular, her center section is collapsing.
She had a fascinating cargo, which included 16 diving helmets, made of copper, not brass, as is so commonly thought. Only one is known to have been recovered and now sits in the window of the training room of Old Harbour Divers, in Weymouth. Her cargo also consisted of beaker shaped smelting crucibles, made by Royal Doulton.
She was over 4000 tons and had been requisitioned to sail from London to Newfoundland when, on April 15th, 1918, she was torpedoed by UB-77. Tragically, her captain and 55 of herr crew were killed.
